Kickstarter 101: by TimoNanda

The Process: After years of making short art films with a "zero budget", I stumbled upon the concept of crowdfunding for art thru "This thing called Kickstarter.com". This required making a short film to raise funds to make a short film, and other various hoop-jumping and cow-towing. And, of course, "Expectations are raised". Then discovering that having just a little money to spend to make a film can be worse than no money at all, because when suddenly there is a so-called "budget", everybody expects a day rate. On the other hand, working with creative professionals on a more elevated level helped me to understand the value of their crafts. There is a reason it's called "independent film" when you fund it yourself, no one is waiting for what they thought they were supposed to get. Keep it rugged.
